Become a Real Estate Agent

If you choose to become a real estate agent, Florida has mutual recognition with 8 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Mississippi, Nebraska and Oklahoma. Both Brokers and Sales Associates can qualify for an equivalent type license in Florida and become a real estate agent if they meet the following qualifications:

Applicant must not be a resident of Florida at time of application and must have a high school diploma or GED.

Applicants from Mississippi and Georgia must have obtained their Real Estate license by completing the educational requirements, and experience requirements, if any, and by passing the Real Estate licensing examination of a state with which we have mutual recognition. Licensees cannot claim mutual recognition if they obtained their license in the mutual state by reciprocity. All others have to obtain their real estate license in the state they are moving from.

Applicant must hold a valid current and active real estate license which is in good standing. The license has to be issued by the Real Estate licensing commission for the state in which the applicant is applying.

These agreements apply to nonresidents licensed in other jurisdictions. Each licensee who applies for Florida licensing from a state or jurisdiction that has a current mutual recognition agreement with Florida still must pass a written Florida-specific real estate law examination. The exam has 40 questions of Florida and Federal law, each question is worth 1 point in value. A grade of 30 points or higher must be achieved to pass the exam. These agreements also ensure that Florida licensees have an equal opportunity to become a real estate agent and must obtain a license in those jurisdictions with which agreements are approved and in force. A real estate course Florida can be helpful to prepare you for the law exam.
